What is Hacktoberfest?

Hacktoberfest is an exciting, month-long celebration of open source, held every October. Developers and tech enthusiasts from around the world come together to contribute to open source projects, learn new skills, and make meaningful contributions to the tech community.

At CHECK24, we proudly support Hacktoberfest because, as passionate software developers, we believe in the power of open source to drive innovation and collaboration. This year, CHECK24 Düsseldorf is hosting two special Hacktoberfest events on October 16th and October 30th, starting at 5:00 PM. Expect great food, free drinks, and, of course, plenty of engaging conversations with friendly and highly skilled developers.

Whether you’re a seasoned developer or just starting out, Hacktoberfest offers the perfect opportunity to improve your coding skills, connect with like-minded people, and make a real impact.

How to find projects?

Finding the right project for Hacktoberfest is easy and fun! Here are some steps to help you get started:

  1. Explore GitHub & GitLab: Most open source projects are hosted on platforms like GitHub or GitLab. Use the search function and filter by topics that interest you—anything from web development to data science.
  2. Look for ‘Hacktoberfest’ Labels: Many projects add a special ‘Hacktoberfest’ label to highlight issues that are beginner-friendly or in need of attention. These are great starting points, especially if you’re new to open source.
  3. Check the Contribution Guidelines: Before diving in, make sure to read the project’s contribution guidelines. These will explain how to submit your work and what the project maintainers expect.
  4. Join the Community: Engage with the open source community for support and collaboration.
